Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers and parents manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his/her own level and reads it at his own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) Accelerated Accelerated Reader gives children, teachers, and parents feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice. Children using Accelerated Reader choose their own books to read, rather than having one assigned to them. This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them. Earning AR points at BES allows students to win prizes and other incentives.

    Project Lead The Way

Spark. Ignite. Accelerate. Young learners are naturally wired for discovery. You’ve seen it. Discovery is what makes them tick. PLTW Launch (PreK-5) taps into students’ exploratory nature, engages them in learning that feels like play, and encourages them to keep discovering – now and for whatever future they choose. Students build in-demand skills through inspiring activities that aren’t typical in a traditional classroom. They are immersed in energized, hands-on activities, projects, and problems that build upon each other and relate to the real world. Students experience integrated learning that blends computer science, engineering, biomedical science, and more. Throughout the modules, even the youngest learners apply their math and English Language Arts (ELA) skills, learn science to standards, and adopt skills that are foundational across disciplines.
